On coaching

Usually these strategic planning meetings are packed with very heavy outcomes-focused agendas and I leave exhausted. This was the first time I am actually leaving a strategic planning meeting feeling like I enjoyed myself. It’s amazing - it was a 3-day meeting and yet everyone was engaged and invigorated the whole time. I was finally able to take a step back from the rush-rush-go-go daily grind, take a step back, and really connect and reflect on our work with the team.
— Department of Veterans Affairs national leader
Dr. Brancu listens empathetically when approached with problems and provides insightful and empowering leadership development strategies for working and communicating more effectively and confidently in challenging environments.
— Department of Veterans Affairs National Program Manager
Mira’s style is friendly, kind, and analytical. Initially I was very anxious about the process, but Mira made me feel at ease and excited to make changes to my marketing plan. She asked questions in a way that made me feel comfortable and seen, which helped me be honest about what I struggle with and what I want in business. She targeted my stumbling block (that marketing feels inauthentic) and helped me find new ways to approach it. I didn’t feel like we were going through what I did wrong, just working together to help my business grow. After working with her, I changed my approach to marketing, creating practices that are specific and more in line with my personal and business values of empowerment and authenticity. AND felt comfortable doing so! I have not done any strategic planning before, but other build your business/define your business podcasts, webinars, etc. have felt completely smarmy and fake. Mira worked directly with me and didn’t use generalities as recommendations for the work that I do. I felt engaged and connected to her, which was very integral to creating a plan.
— Allie Mullin, CEO, Allie Mullin Photography
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mira as a professional colleague for several years, and I cannot endorse her strongly enough for her ability to produce incredible insights regarding leadership, workplace challenges, and inclusion and diversity. She has an uncanny capacity to put her finger right on the pulse of an issue, and offer solutions that are practical, far-reaching, and facilitate success for everyone. Her ability to leverage both empathy and insight make her an incredible coach (even as a colleague). She puts everything she has into each and every project, initiative, or support role she takes on. If you are working with Mira in any capacity, you are getting the very best.

You manage to keep me grounded like some magical unicorn coach.
— Associate Professor and Academic Leader
Dr. Brancu is really good at shining a light on people’s capabilities that might be hidden from view. By shining that light, she helps them become visible to new audiences and opportunities where that capability can be optimized for the benefit of many.
— organizational development expert and executive coach
Dr. Brancu has a unique ability to help clients see strengths they’ve often missed, being stuck in a standard way of thinking for so long. She is passionate about the growth and success of people she works with, but in a way that leverages the positive self-worth of individuals, making their growth and gains more sustainable and independent. This is a woman you need on your team as your coach.
— Dr. Rehman Abdulrehman, psychologist and D&I expert
The executive coaching experience proved to be transformational for me. Dr. Brancu provided thorough leadership style assessments, detailed feedback sessions, and ongoing reflective exercises that helped me identify areas for growth as well as strategies for harnessing my strengths [including] how my leadership values could be applied to assessing [my team’s needs] and crafting my [leadership] vision. [This past year was] fraught with never before seen challenges. Dr. Brancu’s coaching allowed me to stay focused, bring my team together as a highly effective unit, and expand my network and collaborations across [the organization].
— Higher Education Faculty Administrator
I just wanted to share with you that one of our leadership development program participants shared what a positive difference you made through coaching her around her emotional exhaustion! She felt so blessed for her time with you. You are making an impact! Thank you!
— Leadership Program Leader
The feedback from the results of the assessments we did were so enlightening. It helped me gain some important self-awareness and I learned about some strengths i didn’t know I had as well as my biggest challenges I need to look out for. It’s helped me better a better leader. It was one of the most helpful experiences.
— Leadership Development Program Participant
As I reflect on what I have accomplished [through executive coaching with Dr. Brancu], I am much more confident in my leadership toolkit, finding pathways that align with my core leadership values, and contributing to institutional goals via my work in support of faculty success. I also learned how to increase the likelihood of people advocating for you when you are not around, where I can go off the rails in my own head, [how to better] understand confusing and frustrating situations and convey my message to be most effective, and how to be a better supervisor.
— Academic administrator
I thought when I started working with you, it would be a lot of “soft” stuff to my medical mind, because it’s all “soft skills” as they say. But it’s actually really hard core!
— Physician leader
I cannot thank you enough. It wasn’t just the content of what you suggested, but also the concepts behind them - the empathy and consideration it takes to reach a... win/win, so everyone gains. It was so nuanced and eye-opening.
— Research Leader
Mira can take everything in my head - all the things I have trouble expressing into words - and reflect it back to meit in a way that’s accurate, gives me more insight, helps me process my experiences, and move me forward much more quickly. Her aim is so masterful, it’s like she’s wearing this blindfold aiming for a fly that is flying around everywhere and she hits the target every time even with all the challenges and obstacles presented to her!
— C.P., healthcare provider
I’m 56 and this was the biggest professional growth I’ve ever made. You took me seriously, listened without judging, and brought in all the processes, principles, and modeling I needed to grow.
— Physician leader
With Mira by my side, I find myself taking more comfortable risks that I would likely not follow through with if it were not for her positive and thoughtful feedback. She affirms and validates while pushing me forward with gentle honesty. Like making taffy, she pushes, pulls, and helps me stretch and form into a greater version of myself through my ongoing journey and process. She’s brilliant and a true joy to work with.
— CP, Healthcare provider
Mira is like a mind Sherpa - she guides you up and down treacherous terrain with sure footing to summit to your goal. Each time I meet with her, she brings a fresh perspective and a unique insight to my vision, whether it is self-awareness, a lead on resources, or a suggestion on how I can interact with others in a more productive way. I like that she collaborates with me to develop a specialized road map to help me align my experiences and skills with my development and leadership goals.
— CP, Healthcare provider
I’m amazed at how much we could get done in just 1 hour. I can listen to 50+ LinkedIn talks about managing supervisors, but it’s very different when we are listening and processing together and there’s continuity. It’s also helpful to hear how it might be like on the other side - like how we might be stumbling blocks for each other as leaders and employees.
— Regional Chief Employee Experience Officer
I was so uncomfortable in my last role it was so hard to be my authentic self. It was an uphill battle to speak up, feel heard and valued. There was a disconnect between my role and myself that you helped me identify. You had me look at what was important to me and how close I was to accessing it - and it was like a gut punch. It made me realize it wasn’t me that didn’t fit - the structure and I weren’t a good match. This helped me know in the future that it’s okay to acknowledge a lack of match, do something about it, and be okay with it.
— National Chief Experience Officer
You took me on during one of the most difficult times of my professional and personal life and helped me in ways you will never know. You inspire me to be the best version of myself.
— Hospital executive leader
Thank you for interpreting the [360-degree] feedback and providing tangible areas for me to work on. This was one of the best hours I have spent on leadership, professional, and personal development ever.
— Cancer researcher
Through coaching with you, I learned it’s okay to make choices that are good for me, even if it’s not what others want. That socialized people-pleasing side of me used to give me so much heartburn - I wanted to meet everyone else’s expectations and hadn’t thought about my own expectations of myself. This feels more healthy. I can affect things in a positive way and if it doesn’t go right, my emotions now down make me spiral. I can only make better decisions now with this new mindset.

on team development

I don’t like all those trust falls and ice breakers [that feel gimmicky] and I was so worried we’d have to do that stuff. I was so relieved we didn’t have to do that and I feel like what we did actually worked much better at bringing us closer and more aligned as a team.
— Team member, operations role about team development program
Mira offered a good balance of leadership around laying out plans for a structured discussion and then moderating but generally permitting the discussion to move forward as the group decided. I also very much appreciated the constructive feedback after the session. Mira is very good at distilling the important parts and giving us the necessary tools and information to proceed on our own.
— Academic medicine leader, about team development and strategic planning sessions
The sessions started important dialogues and conversation that were balanced in that the common “talkers” were respectful so that the quieter team members could be heard. I felt that this was so important to bringing forth excellent ideas and foster respect.
— Amie K., academic medicine leader, about team development and strategic planning sessions
Thank you for walking us through our team development process AND our strategic planning process with compassion, support, positivity, and immense expertise. I also appreciated you were willing to challenge us when we needed to stretch ourselves. Exceptional two days!
— Faculty leader
I thought the DiSC data was particularly enlightening. I also liked the structure—starting with the personal and moving to the team functioning.

This was such a great opportunity to become more effective as a team and lean on each other’s strengths. We don’t usually break away from the intensive day-to-day things to do this important foundational work.
— Healthcare executive leader
Your team development helped the strategic planning session we had planned to have afterward so much more productive. [one of our executive leaders] even said that they don’t typically like leadership/team sessions and they were very pleased with how helpful this one was!
— Executive IT leader
I so appreciate that our executive leaders put in the time and investment to do this [team development work]. It has not only improved our team cohesion and communication but also makes me feel good about being part of this team and organization.
— Healthcare administrative leaders
Thank you for this team development. People are now speaking out more, sharing knowledge and experience. This was such a difficult time to build a team [via virtual setting] and yet this has been such a phenomenal growth experience for us.
— IT healthcare leader
I had an assumption of what to expect [from team development] since I’ve participated in these things in the past. But you brought in a methodology and framework to move it from the conceptual to the practical. As a result we have greatly matured as a team. We now understand where we are today and where we want to be tomorrow.
— IT executive leader
Sometimes you get into this normal routine and don’t take the time to pick your head up. You helped us open up new possibilities for how we can be a better team, and not continue with our status quo.
— IT healthcare leader
I was honestly really skepital going into this team development because I’m really busy at work, there are so many family things happening at home I have to attend to and so I was wondering ‘Will it really be worth all this time?’ And I have to say this really was so important for us to do and I was so glad we did it.
— Family Medicine leader
I have gone through dozens of team development activities over the course of my 30-year career, and I went into this really skeptical, thinking, “oh boy, not another one.” Instead, I have been so impressed. The assessments used were not only better than all the others, but also the way you facilitated it was so much better than all the other team development experiences I’ve had. This was the first time anyone has explained these results well and helped me understand how to apply what I learned about myself and others in a practical useful way.
— Mobile technology executive leader
I have had this same assessment done before in a past team development experience and the way you facilitated the experiences was so much better.
— Telehealth and mobile tech executive leader
I’m so glad we hired you instead of any of the other coaches. You established rapport, named each of us by name, gave space for us to ask questions, listened, and had clear, succinct answers and solutions for our needs. We didn’t see that in the other coaches we were interviewing. We could see what we’d get with you right from your introduction.
— Academic medicine clinic leader
“The team raved about your team development facilitation. They liked how you structured it so much that they’ve applied the method to all their workgroup processes. Your method helps us identify the similarities in our thinking while also giving everyone a chance to feel heard and reducing the potential for silent dissent.”
— Executive mobile tech remote team
You helped us understand and engage in healthy conflict without taking it personally.
— Director, University Medical Center Residency Program
I’ve seen a transformation in how this team interacts with each other. They are more flexible and building better relationships in specific and profound ways than even 3 months ago.
— Department Chair, University Medical Center
Dr. Brancu’s explanation of the types of leadership styles, how we each approach situations, and how different types can work effectively together caused lightbulbs to go off around the room. Several workgroups were established as a direct result of the discussions. Team members expressed their delight (not an exaggeration) over the connections and deeper engagement developed during and as a result of the meeting.
— Healthcare Tech Organization Executive

I’ve participated in a lot of virtual trainings or webinars where the engagement was poor. This was not like that. This was truly great. You made the session so positive and engaging. We cannot thank you enough for supporting our efforts and vision to support other women grow their careers, connect with other professional women, and become their best versions of themselves
— SHE NC Non-profit
I loved so many things about your webinar. The focus on how one can tap resources around them to grow and learn no matter what their circumstance was just wonderful. The discussion around culture and the ability to be unique and express oneself within the confines of culture was powerful and inspiring. And finally the tip on boundaries and learning how to make a distinction between what is “your problem” and what is “someone else’s issue” was simply profound. If you could condense this down to 10” it would be a killer TED talk!
— Healthcare system leader
The Thought Leadership Starter Course is worth every penny especially if you do the work. While participating in the course I saw my LinkedIn grow from 6 to 50 in followers. I became more intentional about owning my digital footprint. I honestly think it was over too fast each session. I highly recommend the course for anyone who is serious about building their brand with credibility. If you apply what you’re learning you’ll see the results quickly, too.
— Ariel Shivers-McGrew, Therapist and D&I Expert
