We’ve all heard the phrase “women in leadership” but how do we help them break through and rise to their full potential? When striving for better representation of women in top-level positions, it is essential that Human Resource directors, managers, and other leaders are working towards creating an environment of support. By encouraging genuine inclusion and providing the resources needed to succeed, we can begin to see a shift in gender equality within organizations.

Office politics exist in virtually all organisations in the world. They often get a bad rep because, more often than not, people use them to push their agendas or grow their power and influence. But what are they, and what's their role in today's office environment?

In this episode, I share my “favorite mistake” story about an early job as a school counsellor and how I felt compelled to send a lengthy email about an ethics situation “straight to the top” and how that was “not well received.”

Most of us have tripped over workplace politics at some point in our career. Many think they can take the high road and avoid playing the political game altogether. Perhaps a better approach is to take the high road AND engage with workplace politics, since it really can’t be avoided anyway.

 

In this special issue, there are six articles on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Some articles focus on the content of consulting on EDI topics, and others focus on the process of consulting on EDI topics. The authors of these articles summarize three fundamental themes that can help consulting psychologists improve their work in this area: evolving terminology, emerging trends, and training needs.
